A variety of Puerto Rico’s finest chefs and restaurateurs received the coveted Tables Magazine Chef’s Hat Award at the 11th annual presentation ceremony on March 28, 2011 at the San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino.
This year’s special Achievement Award went to David Cimino of Plaza Provision, who was recognized for promoting the appreciation of good wine, his civic awareness, and his long affiliation with various charitable events that themselves raised culinary awareness.
Winning the Chef’s Hat Award for the fourth time, and entering the Tables Magazine Hall of Fame were restaurateurs Carli Muñoz of Carli’s Fine Bistro and Piano, and Chef/owner Manolo Caamono of La Casona.
Third-time winners were: Restaurateur/chef Giancarlo Amenta of Al Dente Ristorante and Chef Dayn Smith of Perla.
Winning for the second time was Chef Peter Schintler for Jam Rum Bar & Bistro Moderne.
First time winners were: Chef/owner Alberto Gianati of Casa Italia, restaurateur Sam Ng and sushi chef Johnny Ng of Chop House, Chef/owner Christian Darcoli of Pinoli Ristaurante Italiano; and Ristorante La Piccola Fontana.
The New and Noteworthy Restaurant Awards went to Chef/owner Martin Lauzao of Cocina Abierta and to chef Roberto Treviño of Bar Gitano. The award for New Local flavor was awarded to Jesus Perez Ruiz and Jesus Perez de Leon of Casa Miramar.
The Award, an exclusive two-tiered acrylic plaque embossed with the Tables Magazine Chefs Hat logo and the recipients’ names, was presented to all the winners by Master of Ceremonies Sherman Wildman of Radio WOSO and Barbara Tasch Ezratty of Tables Magazine.
