RICO PRESENTA "THE BLUE NIGHT BAND"
Esta
reconocida banda de jazz tocará en Carli's Café para
recaudar fondos a beneficio de músicos de Nueva Orleáns
San
Juan, Puerto Rico - La organización Comité Amigos de Nueva
Orleáns en el Viejo San Juan Puerto Rico anunció
la primera actividad pública de recaudación de fondos
que llevará a cabo para los músicos y personas necesitadas
de la ciudad de Nueva Orleans, tras el paso de los huracanes Rita
y Katrina el año pasado. La actividad constará de
un concierto que ofrecerá la reconocida banda de Jazz "The
Blue Night Band" el domingo, 2 de abril de 2006 en el local Carli's
Café Concierto, ubicado en el Viejo San Juan (en los bajos
del edificio del Banco Popular). La actividad está pautada
para comenzar a las 8pm y la entrada será libre de costo.
Sin embargo durante la noche el público que así desee
tendrá la oportunidad de aportar o donar al fondo que se
ha creado para estos propósitos.
"The
Blue Night Band" fue fundada hace 19 años, es dirigida por
el visionario de Jazz Rocco John Iacovone y actualmente está
integrada por estudiantes varones de la Escuela Superior Xavier
High School en la ciudad de Nueva York. Cabe mencionar que la banda
ha sido recipiente de importantes reconocimientos y logros en el
género de Jazz. Además, ha sido invitada a tocar en
prestigiosos escenarios internacionales en Méjico, República
Dominicana, Alaska y en las principales ciudades Estadounidenses,
por mencionar sólo algunos.
Por
su parte, el Comité Amigos de Nueva Orleáns
en el Viejo San Juan Puerto Rico es una entidad sin
fines de lucro fundada recientemente y compuesta primordialmente
por comerciantes y vecinos del Viejo San Juan con el fin de organizar
eventos y recaudar fondos para los músicos autóctonos
y personas necesitadas que residen en la hermana ciudad de Nueva
Orleáns y ayudarlos a reestablecerse en esa gran ciudad.
Los fondos recaudados se destinarán a organizaciones ya establecidas
dentro de los Estados Unidos, como The Jazz Foundation of New York
y la Universidad de Loyola, quienes atienden directamente las necesidades
de músicos y personas que se han quedado sin hogar.
"El
Comité se gestó gracias al apoyo que recibimos de
un grupo visionario de comerciantes y vecinos de San Juan en brindar
ayuda a personas que se quedaron desbastecidos tras el inminente
paso del huracán Katrina", mencionó Carli Muñoz,
propietario de Carli's Café Concierto. "Nos afectó
ver como una ciudad con tanto parentesco al Viejo San Juan culturalmente
y estructuralmente hablando, de la noche a la mañana quedara
totalmente destruída. Eso nos conmovió enormemente
y dio paso a crear este fondo el cual ayudará a impulsar
el desarrollo urbano de esta importante ciudad, tan rica y fundamental
con raíces sólidas en cuanto a cultura, música
y artes se refiere", añadió. "Para nosotros es un
privilegio poder aportar en la medida que podamos con esta encomienda",
culminó Muñoz.
El
concierto de "The Blue Night Band" es el primero de una serie de
conciertos y actividades culturales que se realizarán durante

El pasado jueves 22 de
Febrero, tuvimos la agradable visita del famoso trompetista Jon
Faddis con su banda en Carli's. El Sr. Faddis, aclamado trompetista de jazz, estuvo de visita en el Conservatorio
de Música por un intercambio entre el Conservatorio de Puerto
Rico y Columbia College en Chicago, como parte de un nuevo programa
educativo a cargo del profesor Marcos Pignataro que dio comienzo
el 20 de febrero.
Ademas
de haber disfrutado de la exquisita comida en Carli's, el grupo
completo se motivo a participar en un explosivo jam session and
conjunto con el profesor Marcos Pignataro en sax,
Gonchi Sifre en la bateria y Carli Muñoz
en el piano el cual duro horas largas -- un verdadero manjar.
De
la orquesta de Jon Faddis participaron: Jon
Faddis en la trompeta,
Dan Anderson en el bajo, Dana Hall
en la bateria, Pat Mallinger en sax y Peter
Saxe en piano. El guitarrista del grupo Frank Dawson
y la trombonista Audrey Morrison
estivieron presente pero sin sus instrumento.
